Today's sketch is a 2-point perspective study, based on one of Mark Crilley's brilliant drawing tutorials. He described it as a "death star city" but it kind of reminds me of Trantor from Asimov's Foundation series.
Fun stuff. It has a look like a small piece of a John Eaves drawing, where he has a spaceport with a ton of ships parked and flying around. The ships themselves are simplified the same way you did it here.
There's some guy on DA whose screen name starts with a K - I think he's Russian - He does a ton of really good 3D spaceship work.
Hmm, I can't think which of John Eaves' drawings that is off the cuff, though I am a big fan of his.
I think the Russian guy you're referring to is Karanak. He has a really cool style, which was quite unique when he started, but I've seen a few others adopt it since. He seems to start off with a basic 3D model and then colour it in Illustrator or something like that. Whatever it is, it works very well.
