Daily Sketch - Rocket by Snazz84
Daily Sketch - Rocket
Yep, still got the Guardians of the Galaxy bug. After the top left sketch I think I was too worn out to draw the other two very well, but hey, I had fun.

Sometime I'll have to look up some tutorials for drawing fur. I found it quite difficult to show the difference between fur that was light or dark due to its actual colour, and fur that was light or dark due to shadows.

Daily Sketch - Groot
Guardians of the Galaxy was incredibly entertaining and I loved Groot so much I had to draw him right away! I didn't get his eyes quite right, but I'm pleased that he looks fairly three dimensional. I'll have a few more goes with him and then move onto Rocket. Fan art is giving me a good excuse to practice drawing characters. :)

Interests
I am a Johnny-come-lately... just discovered this six-part series of videos which were uploaded back in January. Intended to step into the sadly, mostly untapped potential of NASA's publicity machine, utilising Carl Sagan's audio books and footage from various documentaries, news media and NASA's own material, the editing really is superb. Maybe if NASA's real life PR was given this much care and attention and was so inspirational, the public wouldn't be so apathetic toward space travel and discovery.

NASA are looking for a T-shirt design "commemorating the final space shuttle mission and the program's contributions to exploration".

The prizes aren't exactly... stellar... but worth entering if you can come up with something in 12 days. And the good news is, it's open to all nations.

You're welcome. I've always loved Star Trek's message of diversity, but it hasn't always managed to practice what it's preached.

SAME.

After the Original Series, none of the others were willing to take the real risks with diversity that the first one did. With the '90s being the beginning of the gay rights movement, one would that that minority would be an obvious choice to represent in the regular cast of DS9 or Voyager. With the bigotry Muslims and Arabs faced in the Western world after 9/11, one would think that would be an obvious minority to represent on "Enterprise." Instead, they shied away from that, and stuck to minorities that were socially "safe" for their ratings.

I've been quite busy lately so haven't had much time to draw, and what I have drawn I've not been very pleased with, but I'll definitely be getting back into it soon. :)

I understand. :) And remember: Art is a practice. It's not going to be magic every time, but you learn something even when the result could be better.

Good advice. :) I think you're right, I just had too high expectations that I'd come up with something really nice everyday when I should have just seen it as a no-pressure practice exercise. Thanks. :)
